Our Movement

It all began…

when seven college students traveled deep into the heart of Ghana during their Semester at Sea voyage. When they made the journey to the neighboring farming village, Akatim, they found a group of students trying to study in a small huddling of shacks in need of more than help…they found a group of students in need of hope. Thus, it was in that school that The Senase Project was born.

Then it evolved…

from a group of students on a journey to a small village in Ghana into a group of students who found their mission, their inspiration…their chance to make a difference. The Senase Project began to change from a focus solely on education to a realization that in order to truly help those children in Akatim, we need to focus on the community as a whole. We are helping to create healthy hearts, healthy bodies and healthy minds.

Now we are making a difference by…

doing things differently. Rather than having a set structure for each community that is applied regardless of the circumstances, we work with each project independently. We meet with the community leaders and discuss what they need to enrich the people’s lives there, be it a school, a medical clinic or something else. Then, we assess what we can do to help them with what they need and begin to work toward helping them through advocacy, fundraising and ultimately the building of their necessities. We speak for those without a voice, stand up for the forgotten and bring hope to those who have lost it.

To sum it all up, our mission is…

eradicating poverty through community development.
