Teacher empowerment

The Teacher Resource Development Program is designed to help increase the effectiveness of teaching in Akatim based on the request of the teachers and Headmaster John Pingle.

At the same time, the program is designed to slowly introduce different learning materials that teachers can incorporate these new methods, ultimately leading to hands-on learning. The program will consist of periodic reviews and communications with Akatim to ensure the best materials are being provided and the teachers’ wishes are being met.

AKATIM

Helping inspire excellence.

The Akatim Village School is not an easy place to teach. Dangerous weather conditions affect travel to school, which is only accessible by a dirt road. It also has a 100% teacher retention rate. This was unheard of in the past, many teachers chose to transfer after only 1 or 2 years. But this group of educators decided to face the challenges of teaching in a rural community. Why? Because they believe in what’s happening at Akatim, and have the results to back it up. This project is about empowering the people who inspire us.

HOW IT WORKS

Our program developers assemble shipments for each semester (3/year) with new classroom tools & creative teaching methods.

Educators at the Akatim Village School give everything a test-run, reporting their questions, thoughts and ideas through our Headmaster.

Throughout the course of the year, and formally at the end of each semester, we all meet (sometimes in several timezones) and they tell us what’s working, and what isn’t.

Our work is legitimate

The Senase Project is a 501 (c)(3) organization, and our finances are available for download on our reports page. Our relationship with Archbishop Desmond Tutu helped get us off the ground, and in 2014 Forbes blog recognized us as a top small-nonprofit. Since then, we’ve seen incredible success. We’re 100% volunteer-based, and that means all of our donations go toward the people and projects that need them most. We are The Senase Project, working to eradicate poverty through community development.
